Fourteen down, one more to go! Then we will have all 15 of our Write On downloadable books up for sale at the store, Teachers Pay Teachers, and Amazon! This post is to let you know about one of my faves—the Level IV book of the Peter Pan series. Take a look at the extensive sample pages for this book here at our store, and read on to find out why your kids will love our Write On books—and especially why your upper level students will love Peter Pan IV!

Here is what you need to know about the entire series of fifteen books:

1) They are called Write On (clever, huh?) and then a character’s name:

Write On, Peter Pan

Write On, Beauty and Beast

Write On, Mowgli (Jungle Book)

2) There are five books of each title—five levels:

I—2nd-4th grade writers

II—-4th-6th grade writers

III—6th-8th grade writers

IV—9-10th grade writers

V—10th-12th grade writers

3) Each book comes in print form directly from us (Character Ink store) and in downloadable format from our store, Teachers Pay Teachers, and Amazon.

4) They have a variety of writing types. Each store description tells what types of writing project each level contains.

5) They have our best and newest teaching methods. No vagueness. No writing ideas. You and your student will know what to do every step of the way.

6) Each project has a detailed sample of that project. I can’t stress this enough. All writing books should have a final product showing what the expectations are for the assignment.

7) They are incredibly fun and engaging. We have been testing them for four years now—and our kids love them! (We test all of our books with 100 students a year in various locations—live and online writing classes.)

8) Each book has at least a dozen sample pages to print off or look through where ever they are sold!

Here is what you will find in Write On, Peter Pan, Level IV:

A. This Level IV book is designed for beginning to upper level high school students and contains the following projects (from prewriting through final product with all the instruction and skills needed for each assignment):

I. Essay Writing—Three Reasons Hook Is a Good Villain or Peter Pan Is a Good Hero

ii. Original Story of Someone Getting Away From a Villain on Hook’s Ship

III. An Original Research Report About One Thing of Aspect in the Story of Peter Pan

B. Each project has detailed samples for students to see how the project was written by another student.

C. Each project has in-depth lessons of all of the skills needed in order to complete that project—

I. The 1-3-1 Essay Approach
II. Quotation Inclusion in Essay Writing (with punctuation lessons)
III. Thesis Statement instruction
IV. Directed Brainstorming Boxes
V. Sentence-by-Sentence Outlining, including links/transitions
Vi. Writing With a Series of Three or More
VII. Extensive Checklist Challenges

What makes a child enjoy writing? You’ve heard me say it before on this blog and in videos—directed instruction!

What makes a child love writing? Directed instruction coupled with a fun (and familiar) topic.

My Write On! books have both of those benchmarks—and my test students have been loving these projects so much!

I talk a lot about the fact that all of my books (complete language arts, writing only, downloadable writing projects, and more) have my Directed Writing Approach. That is, they take students by the hand and give them the tools needed for each and every project. A student should never be asked to write anything without being taught HOW to do the elements of the writing project, whether those are first person writing, quotation inclusion, breaking up paragraphs, or any other skill needed to complete the project.

Students need much more than writing prompts to become outstanding writers.

So once again, I am happy to bring you another Write On book!

The pluses to these books are many:

1) They contain my Directed Writing Approach.

2) They are fun topics.

3) They are familiar topics.

4) They are short books geared at five different levels (five Peter Pan books, five Mowgli books, five Beauty and the Beast books, etc.)

5) They each contain two to four writing projects—and can be completed within one month during a regular school year.

6) They can be used by public, private, or homeschoolers—or even by tutors or after school programs.

7) They are available in print AND downloadable versions.

New Middle School Peter Pan Writing Book

So….I bring you Write On, Peter Pan II :

This Level II book is designed for upper elementary/middle school students and contains the following projects (from
pre-writing through final product with all the instruction and skills needed for each assignment):

  • Retelling Given Story
  • Finish-This-Scene Original Story
  • Original First Person Essay From Character’s Viewpoint

Each project has detailed samples for students to see how the project was written by another student and in depth lessons of all of the skills needed in order to complete that project—Sentence by Sentence Outlining Lines for Peter Pan story; Brainstorming Boxes and organizing material for original story finishes; first person writing instruction; notetaking from paragraph source; paragraph writing from notes; scene planning; Brainstorming Boxes for paragraph breaks; first person pronouns; final product; Checklist Challenges; and more.

If you are unsure whether your upper elementary or middle school student can write this much yet, start with any of our Write On Level I books. These take students by the hand even more so.

Happy Directed, Fun, Familiar Writing! 🙂

Love and hope,
Donna

Product Highlight: Write On, Peter Pan! Level I

One of the best ways to get to a kid’s writing heart is to give him two things: (1) Writing projects with clear, “Directed” instructions every step of the way and (2) Fun writing topics!

Thankfully, my new Write On books offers both of these!

For those new to this series (this is the seventh book out of fifteen that will be available within the next six weeks!), here is a description of them:

“The Write On! series of books is from Character Ink Press’ Book-Movie-Book line of publications that are starting to come out in spring 2016. The Write On! books are writing/composition books of two to four lengthy lessons each, between 60 and 120 pages per book (depending on the level).

These books contain writing projects based on old books/current movies that children and adults love. The program contains all types of writing, especially focusing on research reports, essays, and stories.

Buy Write On, Peter Pan Level I here!

Product Highlight Write On, Peter Pan! Level I

The projects in the series all use the author’s signature “Directed Writing Approach,” which takes students by the hand every step of the way from prewriting (brainstorming, character and plot development, research, etc.) to skill building (for projects requiring certain skills, such as quotes or imagery or persuasion, etc.) to outlining (based on the type of writing) to writing rough drafts to editing (via the Checklist Challenge) to final copy. No vagueness. No questions as to what to write or how to write.”

These books are about three popular movies that have been re-made in the past year or so—movies that were originally popular, classic books for families. The movies (and the books) are fun, creative, imaginative, interesting, and engaging. I am trying to bring out writing books for kids that are creative, imaginative, interesting, and engaging as well!

So far, we have these three book/movie combo writing books written (five books/five levels for each movie):

Write On, Mowgli (April 2016)

These books in this Write On! series are available as downloadable e-books (at Character Ink Press and Teachers Pay Teachers) and as print books through Character Ink Press and Amazon.

Current and upcoming titles (five books in each title) include the following:

Level I: Early Elementary
Level II: Upper Elementary
Level III: Junior High
Level IV: High School
Level V: Advanced High School

Projects 3 & 4: Question and Outline for a Ship Report (Ships During the Time of Captain Hook).
