\nSit has an I\u2014and I alone can do it (it is not done TO something else).<\/span><\/li>\n\nI sit down.<\/span><\/li>\nYesterday I sat down.<\/span><\/li>\nBefore that I had sat down.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n
\nSit means to recline or lower down to a sitting position\u2014anybody or anything can sit, as long as it does it by itself (i.e. it is NOT set)<\/span><\/li>\n\nThe chair sits in the corner empty, missing its owner.<\/span><\/li>\nShe sat there and pouted all afternoon.<\/span><\/li>\nThey are sitting down in protest.<\/span><\/li>\nShe has sat there in tears all day.<\/span><\/li>\nThey are sitting in the parlor.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n

\nSet does not have an I\u2014it is done TO something.<\/span><\/li>\nSet must have an object following it\u2014something that it is setting.<\/span><\/li>\n\nSet the table.<\/span><\/li>\nSet the baby down in her seat.<\/span><\/li>\nGod set the stars in the sky.<\/span><\/li>\nSet the book on the counter.<\/span><\/li>\nWe will be setting up decorations at noon.<\/span><\/li>\nThe jello still needs to set . (It’s like you are saying to set the jello!)<\/span><\/li>\nShe sets the table as though a king is coming.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n
\nSet is the same base word for all of its tenses: set; set; set; sets; setting. That is why I recommend teaching this Wacky Word pair first (of the three).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n
