Obviously, you could do work sessions on Saturdays as a family, summer work together, a thirty minute weekly family cleaning time one evening that is slower, etc. But for daily work, I would focus on thirty minutes–maybe a five minute chore before school, ten minutes after school, and ten minutes after dinner or before bed. The key to that would be to make it so clear cut and simplified. Every day before school, he or she would make his bed, load the dishes, and take out the trash. After school, he would fold a load of laundry and set the table for dinner. etc. No gray areas. And, of course, you will need to change accoridng to seasons and schedules (i.e. after school activities, etc.). I wouldn’t give up on the idea because kids are in school. Most kids play computers, watch television, chat with friends, etc. quite a bit, so time can be found. You will just need to be creative and firm.

He will only have so much time between getting ready for school, doing homework after-school, dinner and bed. Just wondering…I am still trying to figure out the chore thing with my 6 yo and I have started late. 🙂
